From its humble beginnings as Wild World in 1982, various park owners and name changes came along the way. After a period of time operating as Adventure World (1994 – 1998), the park was officially branded as Six Flags America for its 1999 season. With its location near the nation’s capital, patriotic flair decorated the newly named park. Its first roller coaster, Wild One (1986), still thrills riders with more than 100 years of history. Designated as an ACE Roller Coaster Landmark, a plaque ceremony will kick off the convention in good form.
Attendees will enjoy two woodies, both Wild One and Roar, and a diverse selection of steel coasters that include Bolliger & Mabillard’s first coaster, now known as Apocalypse, along with Superman – Ride of Steel and Joker’s Jinx. In all, the park features nine roller coasters from manufactures such as B&M, John Miller, Great Coasters International Inc., Premier Rides, Vekoma and Zamperla.

The site of the seminal roller coaster marathon that started it all we be the second cohost for Coaster Con 41. ACE’s three founding members participated in that marathon on Rebel Yell and discussed forming a club of roller coaster enthusiasts. In the months that followed just such an idea happened. Today, that wooden coaster is now known as Racer ’75, with its new name giving a subtle nod to ACE.
The park’s 13 roller coasters are sure to be the highlight of several ERTs. Intamin’s Intimidator 305 stands the tallest in the park, Dominator is the longest B&M floorless in the world, and the brand new Twisted Timbers is the first Rocky Mountain Construction hybrid conversion to actually be longer than its original layout.
